About Doodle Cricket

Doodle Cricket is a browser game that Google released as an interactive Doodle in June 2017 to mark the ICC Champions Trophy. Instead of a stadium full of people, the match is played by insects: you bat as a cricket, and the snails are the opposition.

The rules take a few seconds to learn. You tap or click to swing, and everything else comes down to timing. A well-timed shot sends the ball sailing, a mistimed one costs you your wicket. The hand-drawn art, bouncy animation and cheerful sound keep each short innings feeling light, even when you are chasing a personal best.

That is why it still gets played years later. Rounds are quick, it works on phones, tablets and computers, and you do not need to know the laws of cricket to enjoy it. If you do, it makes a nice five-minute break between overs of the real thing.

Tips for a higher score

  • Wait for the ball instead of swinging early. Impatience is the most common way to get out.
  • Watch the first few deliveries to get a feel for the pace before you go for big shots.
  • On a phone, turn the device sideways and use Fullscreen for a bigger pitch.
  • If the game freezes or you want a fresh start, press Reload.

New to cricket? The basics in a minute

You do not need to know the laws of the game to enjoy Doodle Cricket, but a few terms make it more fun to follow.

Run
A single point. Batters score runs by hitting the ball and running between the wickets, or by hitting a boundary.
Boundary
A shot that reaches the edge of the field. It scores four runs if the ball bounces on the way, and six if it clears the edge in the air.
Wicket
The set of stumps and bails the bowler aims at. A batter who is dismissed is said to be out, and that counts as a wicket.
Innings
One team's turn to bat. It ends when the team is all out or has used up its overs.
Over
Six legal deliveries from one bowler.
Duck
Getting out without scoring a single run.

In Doodle Cricket, all of that boils down to one skill: timing your swing.
